August, 2011 – MCM participated in three different backpack give away events this month, each benefitting underprivileged children in Miami-Dade County. We donated a total of 350 backpacks to Commissioner Audrey Edmonson’s and Commissioner Jean Monestime’s backpack distribution events, and to the Youth Achieving and Succeeding Back to School Extravaganza. At each of these events children were gifted with backpacks filled with all of the essential back to school supplies. MCM is pleased to support community efforts to help start our kid’s school year right.

June, 28, 2011 - MCM coordinated the colossal move of a retired Boeing 737-201 aircraft from Miami International Airport to the George T. Baker Aviation School. Several public agencies and members of the engineering industry were part of this massive community effort; MCM worked tirelessly alongside C3TS, Bob’s Barricades and Allegiance Crane, with the support of MDAD, MDX and FDOT to make this project a reality. This plane was donated through the effort and coordination of Benny F. Benitez (CEO of the 94th AeroClaims-Aviation Consultant Group) giving students the opportunity to learn through the latest flight technology.
Since the Lift took place over LeJeune Road, extensive Maintenance of Traffic and street closures were required, and the operation had to be scheduled in the middle of the night. The plane was lifted with the help of a 500 ton crawler crane, donated by Allegiance, and placed on LeJeune Rd. From there the plane was then pulled by an aircraft tug to its new home at the aviation school. It was a great experience to donate our time and services to something that will make a direct impact on the education of Miami-Dade County students.

April 28, 2011 - Once again MCM participated in this corporate run, the largest 5K in Florida. The event builds company spirit and teamwork, promotes fun, and most importantly raises money for a good cause. This year all money raised went to the American Red Cross South Florida Region, a non-profit organization serving the Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. MCM employees, joined by employees of corporations from across Miami walked, ran, and had fun during the 3.1 mile road race located in Bayfront Park.

February 2, 2011 - Our very own LEED Silver certified building, the “GSA Trade Shop Facility” has been in the center of green news this month. On Feb.1, the US Green Building Council presented the LEED Silver plaque to Miami Dade County in a ceremony where Mayor Carlos Alvarez received the plaque. Additionally, on Feb.2 “GSA Trade Shops” served as the location to hold the “GreenPrint Tour”, where the Mayor and other County Officials participated in a media event featuring the launch of the County’s sustainability roadmap. The County promoted their electric cars, hybrid buses for public transportation, hydraulic hybrid garbage trucks and walked the attendees through a guided tour of the Trade Shops.
MCM was the Design/Builder of this facility, which is the first LEED Silver certified building owned my Miami-Dade County. Among the green features of this project, we can mention energy savings of over 28% compared to a standard building, and water savings of 40% achieved by using low-flow bathroom fixtures and irrigation systems designed for native species. Additionally, 95% of the waste generated during construction was diverted from landfill. Way to go MCM!!!

January 28th, 2011 - MCM celebrated the “topping-off” ceremony of the Cuban Memorial on Friday, January 28, 2011. The project provides a permanent home to a monument that has been on the Miami Cuban-American community’s wish list for almost a decade. The event took place at Florida International University’s South Campus near the Football Stadium on SW 114 Avenue.
When the Cuban Memorial is completed, the 62-foot-high obelisk made out of mosaic tiles bearing the Cuban flag will stand tall within a five-pointed star surrounded by shattered glass bearing the names of all the victims who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the quest for freedom and fight against tyranny.
With the support of the local community, MCM will be able complete this significant historical symbol for the Cuban community in Miami.
